Community-based Ecotourism
One of the hallmarks of Periyar is the successful initiative of the authorities in involving ex-poachers, local villagers and women self-help groups with their ecotourism initiatives. When erstwhile poachers turned guides and villagers became protectors, sustainable development as well as their livelihoods have been ensured.
